Gwilym Simcock is one of the most gifted pianists and imaginative composers working on the British jazz scene. With a long list of accolades to his name - Perrier Award winner, a BBC Radio 3 Jazz Award and the first ever
jazz artist to be selected as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist - he is able to move effortlessly between jazz and classical music, often inhabiting both worlds simultaneously.
No stranger to RNCM audiences, over the last couple of years Gwilym has played here with Mike Walker, Adam Nussbaum and Steve Swallow in a Manchester Jazz Festival collaboration, as well as gracing the stage with his own Trio and Tim Garland’s Lighthouse Trio. Chick Corea described Gwilym as ‘… an original… a creative genius’ and we’re delighted that he’ll be joining our very own Big Band for their second show of the Spring season....
